Σύμφωνα με την ανακοίνωση της εταιρείας, επρόκειτο για «χαμηλής ταχύτητας σύγκρουση» μεταξύ της πτήσης Endeavor Air 5047, που είχε φτάσει από το Σάρλοτ της Βόρειας Καρολίνας, και της πτήσης Endeavor 5155, η οποία επρόκειτο να αναχωρήσει με προορισμό το Ρόανοκ στη Βιρτζίνια. Η Endeavor αποτελεί θυγατρική της Delta.
